The Isaaq Genocide, a systematic campaign of extermination orchestrated by the Somalia regime,stands as a dark and harrowing chapter in human history. During this period of unspeakable terror, the Isaaq community, one of the largest clans in Somaliland, was subjected to a relentless assault on their very existence. The Somalia regime, led by the autocratic Siad Barre, viewed the Isaaq as a threat to their power and sought to eliminate them through a combination of indiscriminate bombings, massexecutions, and forced displacement.

The consequences were devastating. Over 500,000 innocent lives were extinguished, leaving families shattered and communitiesdecimated. The city of Hargeisa, the Isaaq’s ancestral homeland, was reduced to rubble, its vibrant culture and rich heritage reduced to ashes.
